Fotolia Makes Your Smartphone Photos For Money
Phoneographie, professional Smartphone photos, are a trend for photo agencies. Fotolia celebrates first success with a new business model.
Months ago, EyeEm started its market place for Smartphone pics. Then followed the European Fotolia microstock market leader. It added its iPhone app to an Android version and an its own Android offering on Monday. Apparently a success. As a spokesperson told CURVED revealed that the new application was already downloaded over 14,000.
Five Million Potential Buyers
The operation is very simple. The images are using the app directly from your own Smartphone upload and offered within the Fotolia community. At the time, these should include five million image producers and sellers. Sold a picture, the mobile photographer will receive a Commission.
What does that mean? The platform requires three credits for a picture of the “Fotolia instant collection” in the standard fare (equivalent to around 3 euros and in which 30 credits – extended license around 30 euros). The photographer receives a Commission now – according to his Fotolia-‘rankings’ – from the sale price. It is located between at least 20 percent and maximum 63 per cent of the purchase price. The higher the sales rank, the higher the Commission. The sales rank in turn depends on the number of photos sold.
Eyeem Also Offers A Similar Model
The Instagram competitor EyeEm has already placed a similar offer months ago. However, the Berlin track a completely different pricing policy. The minimum starting price, can bring a photo with them, is a euro. Here, the photographer himself can determine how much they want to charge for a picture. One half of the sales goes to the members of the EyeEm, the Web company retains the rest. The Berlin transfer revenue from a credit balance of ten euros. Still, the offer is in the closed beta phase. The official launch is scheduled soon. Interested parties can register now.
It is important for all photographers, that they never assign the complete rights to their works. There are only non-exclusive rights to sell. Exact figures about success and failure of the EyeEm range are not yet known.
Since the launch of the instant apps by Fotolia, the photographers high invited more than 135,000 pics of which already have been sold over 50,000 images. This is of course an argument to Fotolia. A provider can actually sell more, the chances of all users are better, the images make better money.

The Fotolia founder Oleg Tscheltzoff opposite CURVED explains that instant was actually only an experiment. “We knew that Smartphone photography will be a big trend, we must not ignore. Now we know that instant is a source for fresh images and driving force for our sales, as we never would have expected it.” The Manager now assumes that the start of the Android app and the number of potential photographers and picture editors, thus greatly enlarged once again a his offer “Further boost give is”.

The best selling photos of the instant collection show shots of young people who have fun in nature”, tells Morgan David de Lossy, head of mobile at Fotolia. “Sun, joy, bright colors and a spontaneous, authentic atmosphere characterize the look that the buyers are looking at Smartphone photos”.
Nature Pictures, Fruit Bowl Phooey
“A bowl of fruit or the handshake will be hardly successful”, reports Michael Rosenwirth. He runs the blog micro-stock.de. “If you enter it as a search term, you get hundreds of hits.” So-called genre pictures would sell well, however, on current topics.
It almost sounds as if on Fotolia exactly the images work best, which in turn get the most likes in social networks. So who is own Instagram account equal to a first test of the market, whether the respective snapshot has it takes to be a top seller.
So also applies to stock images: who is always on the pulse of time and the fastest a trend detects and reacts, is clearly at an advantage.
